Biological Exposures

Substance such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and toxins that can transfer from other biological matter to humans. Unlike chemical hazards, these agents are often living organisms that can reproduce and spread within a workspace if not properly managed. Topics include mould and fungi, bloodborne pathogens, zoonotic diseases, communicable diseases and wastewater.

Chemical Exposures

Substances that can cause health or physical harm through inhalation, skin contact, or ingestion. These are often categorized by their physical state (gases, vapors, dusts, fumes) or their biological effect on the body. Topics may include respirable crystalline silica, hazardous materials, confined space gasses, lead, welding fumes, solvents and sensitizers.

Physical Exposures

Energy that can cause injury or illness with or without direct physical contact. Topics may include thermal stress, laser safety, noise, ionizing radiation, non-ionizing radiation, and ergonomics.
